Rock Star is a film about Chris Cole, a talented musician who idolizes the heavy metal frontman Bobby Beers. Chris spends his days working a mundane job repairing copy machines, but his true passion lies in playing in a Steel Dragon tribute band. When Chris is unexpectedly fired from his tribute band, he receives a life-changing phone call. He has been chosen to replace Bobby Beers as the lead singer of Steel Dragon.

Chris's life is instantly transformed as he rises from a fan to a rock god. He experiences the glitz and glamour of sudden stardom, but he soon realizes that fame and success may not bring him the happiness he desires. As Chris struggles with his newfound fame, he also faces challenges in his personal life, especially with his supportive girlfriend Emily.
